About Real Life Fellowship: Our Story

Real Life Fellowship is a community of Jesus followers that began meeting at Eagle Crest Charter Academy in the Fall of 2004 and relocated to the second floor of a hundred year old, previously abandoned school building in the inner-city of Holland, MI in the Fall of 2008. We made this move as a result of earnestly listening to God’s voice, and our people are excited to be meeting others at their point of need with Jesus in the most diverse area of town. We welcome you to come and engage God and a group of His people who are serious about being Christ to one another, Holland and the world.

Feel free to ask any questions about us, because it is our desire to be open and honest about all that goes on here. This website contains information on the ministry opportunities and people of RLF, and we hope that these opportunities and people can help you discern your call as a dreamer, explorer and follower of Jesus.

Who are we?
We at Real Life are an intergenerational faith community seeking to love God and one another deeply as we desperately embrace grace in the midst of our messy lives. We do not claim to “have it all together” or act like we do. Our ministry does not operate around programs or any particular personality, except that of Jesus, because we believe that He is God’s ultimate love expression – His only Son sent for us. We seek to respond to what God has done, is doing, and wants to do through living a passionate, desperately dependant, Spirit-led life.

Our community is committed to solid biblical teaching, because we believe that scripture teaches us all that is necessary for faith and life. We believe God, the creator and ruler of all things, has dreams for each of us, and we want to learn to live out those dreams and share them with others. This is how God retells His story through us, His people. We also believe in holding on to many elements of vintage faith that the “Contemporary Church” has abandoned. We understand the value in reclaiming the essence of the early church, as well as, pushing forward with new and creative ways to encounter the mysteries of God.

Values
When we take a close look at scripture it doesn’t take long to determine what God values the most: He values himself above all else and then His "own image" creation, humans. Jesus Christ summed this truth up by leaving two integral commands for those that choose to follow him: 1. Love God with everything that you are and 2. Love other people as yourself (Mark 12:29-31).

How We Practice Our Faith

Here at RLF we believe that we can call what we do church because of the Four Marks of the Church that we practice:

1. Preaching of the Word
2. Investing with Jesus in one another and others
3. Communion
4. Baptism

Beliefs

We believe that the Bible is the inspired, living, breathing, authoritative word of God, and it is the Truth given by God to His people for the practice of all faith and life. (Hebrews 4:12)

The Nicene Creed:

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.
He has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

The Apostles Creed:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, the Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:
Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell.
The third day He arose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,
whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.
